Haven't dined alone in forever but the bar lends itself nicely to eating for one. The food and service was fantastic. I'd like to get back eventually.

Food is great here. Started with two light appetizers...both were delicious!!! Grilled avocado and citrus and artichoke hearts. The steak is always a 10 here. Butcher's cut for $34 is the best deal in NYC. Must order med rare and enjoy every single bite. Spinach gratin side and the broccoli special were perfectly cooked. Can't wait to visit again, now that I figured the walk to the L is 5 mins. Love this steakhouse. And the service is great and super friendly!!!

We made a reservation for 6, but unfortunately, they seated us by the door, which wasn't ideal since it was snowing and a lot of people were coming in and out, making it pretty cold. If you're planning to order the Ax Handle Ribeye, be sure to request it early--it takes about 30 minutes to prepare, and they charge by the ounce. Overall, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was relaxed, making it a great spot for a casual meal with friends.

St. Anselm is one of my restaurant lists I have to go. I didn't have a chance to come here yet because the place always packed, either long waiting line or reservation ahead. The menu has all my husband and I want. We both have different craving of food, so he loves steak, but I love seafood, so this restaurant has everything. During long weekend I decided to hop up this place. We got a parking right in front of the place which is impossible for regular time. Walking in without line and getting seat right away, Great!. When NYC is empty, we are king! we have........... - Lobster Tail for start and it was perfectly cooked. - Beef Tartare: good amount if you are not hungry and only want to hang out and enjoy drinks - Butcher's steak: only steak and need to order side dish if you want some vegetables. But steak itself taste super delicious. Even my husband order medium but they still give him medium rare but the meat is very soft and juicy, so he is ok with that. - Pot ce Creme is good but...... - Basque Cheesecake is better! I only eat half and the rest of it my hubby took it and I have to tell him that is my dessert so he has to stop taking my food. Service is good and very friendly. We definitely will come back to try more menu. I'm not sure we will have the same excellent experience when the place going to regular busy service time but because of their delicious food. I hope my husband will still enjoy this place and coming back often.

This has become one of my favorite restaurants in Brooklyn and I have been here many times. We always make reservations a couple days before. First off I LOVE the butcher's steak, I've ordered this so many times, it's buttery, salty and always cooked to perfections. They have the best creamed spinach and fried potatoes over all the other famous steak houses in NYC. Any vegetable side we try is always great. Last time we got the carrots with chimichurri and they were so tangy. I tried the salmon special and the chicken on occasions and they were both very delicious. But at the end of the day, I always go back to the steak. Last but not least all their desserts are amazing, cheese cake, pineapple upside down cake, and last time was a toffee pudding that was to die for!

A group of friends and I decided to stop by here for lunch on a Sunday - we had reservations for 12 pm and they were really nice about us being late (we did call in advance to let them know that we will likely be late). For the weekends - they do have special items on the lunch menu which we appreciate. The menu itself is not too big; focusing on a few key items. They are a wine and beer place so if you are a cocktail fan this likely isn't the place for you. It was very rustic vibes with really nice staff. The majority of us got the steak and eggs which was absolutely delicious. The meat was super tender and the potatos were nicely seasoned. For sides we got the Spinach Gratin which was nice and creamy and also the pan fried mash potatos which were also delicious - so crispy and hot. For dessert we all got the affogato - they used regular ice cream instead of gelato but it was still delicious nontheless. Overall good food and really nice staff here; would recommend checking this place out if you are in the neighborhood and in the mood for steak!

Took myself on a solo date and ordered way to much but would do it ALL AGAIN! No regrets. As I sat at the bar dining alone, I took some notes of my experience in the moment and have copied them below for you to enjoy: - Berkshire pork: perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The right cut of meat with just enough fat that literally melts in your mouth - Avocado & orange salad: the perfect non lettuce based salad to break up your heavy meat meal. Citrusy, light but balanced - Butcher steak: perfectly cooked, well seasoned and delicious with every bite - Pan mashed potatoes: steaming the entire meal, the perfect amount of garlic that isn't overkill - Wine: light and slightly sweet, paired well with everything and didn't kill my wallet at $13 a glass - Pot de crème- dusted with salt to counter balance the sweetness. Staff recommended and totally the perfect way to end the meal - Casual, relaxed Brooklyn vibe. Intimate but not stuffy or claustrophobic. The type of place that everyone in the open style kitchen wears a ball cap and has a mustache. You trust they know how to fire a steak or change the tire in your bicycle This was a killer meal and the service was awesome and just friendly enough. I could rave about this place and highly recommend you make a visit yourself. 4.9/5
